Pipeline Inspection

Carrying energy resources inevitable to national economy and people’s daily life, the stretching gas and oil pipelines have to be inspected on a regular basis to ensure safe transmission, avoid damage to the pipelines due to national or human causes, and prevent lawbreakers from stealing the resources. Gas and oil pipelines in mountainous areas are usually laid under the ground surface in open and flat terrains such as valleys and watercourses therein. In the case of steep slopes and rivers that cannot be steered around, the pipelines are laid through the mountain and across the river. Traditionally in routine inspection, workers have to ride in a vehicle along the pipelines and detect with naked eyes. But due to the rugged and winding roads in the mountain, the riding distance is much longer than the pipeline itself. Sometimes the pipeline is only 1 to 2km, but with several mountains to climb the riding distance can be 30 to 50km. Long inspection time and intense work lead to a very low efficiency. In addition, mountain roads are usually blocked during rainy seasons due to geological disasters such as landslide, flood and debris flow etc. Vehicles and people have no access to where the pipelines are laid when the damage conditions of pipelines are most wanted by pipeline companies.
