3D Point Cloud

  • The current acquisition of 3D point cloud mainly is mainly realized viaairborne laser scanner on manned aerial vehicle or laser radar scanner on theground. But there are some disadvantages. The former solution is too costly;besides, the resolution of the acquired point cloud is quite poor due to thehigh flight height of manned aerial vehicle. The latter solution is tooinconvenient, since it requires support station, which has to be changedfrequently; furthermore, blind angel is very likely in ground scanning. Therefore,to acquire 3D point cloud through the data obtained by UAV becomes anothersolution.

 

  • md4 series UAV system can take off in all kinds of terrain environment andtake photos at low flight height, and therefore can acquire aerial photographsof high overlapping ratio and high resolution (<125px) with ease and highefficiency. With the help of relevant software and based on the principles ofphotogrammetry and computer vision, 3D point cloud and DSM can be generatedquickly. The spatial resolution can be lower than 500px; additionally, thegenerated color point cloud looks really authentic, as the point cloud iscolored directly by taken photos. Optionally, high-resolution 3D point cloudcan be acquired with the airborne laser scanner, specially developed for md4series UAV system, scanning specific areas at a low flight height.
